These Chinese guys filled a huge line of bottles with different amounts of liquid so they make a different tone when struck. They attached a "mallet" to a remote-control car so when the car drives by it strikes the bottles. Tempo is controlled by spacing the bottles apart.
Naturally, as all electronics platforms play Doom, so do all Internet instruments play the Mario Theme.
The Internet (and the Chinese) win this round!
Some nice news in the world of civic engineering – researchers in Hokkaido, Japan have patented “musical roads”. A series of grooves are cut into the road surface. Depending on how far apart they are, they form different tones. So far there is a pop song carved into at least one road. Playback only works at 28mph and can be difficult to “hear” just right.
I’ve never liked the rib-juddering rumble strips before toll booths that are trying to slow you down on the approach, but I never imagined they could be adjusted to make music.
While most cars are painted with a color coat and then a shiny clear coat, this new technique uses a second color layer. The colors change depending on what angle you are viewing from.
Apparently it's a bit pricey, but - look! Shiny!
Fun fact: modern nail polishes are really not that different from the paint used on cars.
It is meant to replicate the present run down condition of the stone version across the pond, not the original mint condition one.
So if you ever find yourself in Nebraska (I can't imagine why!) check this monument to ...... well, something I'm sure.
A traffic cop is dressed as a leprechaun with flags and a pot of gold, a speed camera, and a sign saying "Watch Your Speed or it will cost you your pot of gold". The leprechaun radios offenders to other officers (in regular uniform) who then pull over the speeders. Apparently it's been quite effective for the police department.
While I salute Orange County's Finest for their creativity, I'm glad it's not my tax dollars paying for the stupid outfit and pot of gold. Oh Florida!
Don't blow up your car?
The best guess is that carrying flammable materials is forbidden, but I prefer the alternative examples (in the comments) such as peacocks are forbidden, or no Carmen Miranda tributes.
However, it seems that very similar signs can be found in Europe, such as this French sign, that says Forbidden. Apparently the French are none the wiser as to what is not allowed.
Do you have any ridiculous or inexplicable traffic signs near you?
You may submit your own photographs, and also download "tickets" to put on the windshields of cars who are poorly parked.
I particularly liked this car that's taking up two spaces, one of which is a handicapped spot. Real nice.
The commercial starts with a small nut rolling down a plank that sets off a giant Rube Goldberg-style chain reaction made entirely out of Honda car parts and ends with a product shot. It's notable for being composed of only 2 continuous shots (there is a slight hiccup at the :60 mark).
This commercial ran worldwide but not in the United States. It was created by Wieden + Kennedy in London with voice talent from American radio personality and author Garrison Keillor.
