Number Theory
I have posted about autistic savants before, but I just bought this book and it's incredible.
Daniel Tammet is unusual even among other autistic savants in that he is very high-functioning: he can live on his own, has his own business, and is able to eloquently express himself verbally.
His book tells about the difficulties and isolation he had growing up, but also his triumphs small and large, and how he has learned to overcome some of his social fears and find a life that works with both his abilities and his disabilities.
He is an excellent writer, especially when he is describing his complicated synesthesia, in which he perceives numbers and words as colors, textures, motions, and shapes.
Fun fact: He is heavily studied by researchers among whom is the brother of Sacha Baron Cohen, the comedian of Ali G and Borat infamy.
