Cameras are expensive you say? Well here are two pinhole style cameras that any (crafts-minded) idiot can afford.
Shown at far left is the matchbox camera made of an empty (duh!) box of matches, a full roll of film, an empty roll of film, a small piece of plastic, and some tin foil.
The slightly more "professional" model camera is downloadable version that you assemble.
Each site has examples of photos taken (usually black-and-whites) and they look pretty good. It is probably helpful if you have some idea how photography works; I assume the pics turn out better if you can control the development yourself instead of the teenager at the drugstore.
